Lesson description:

The ultrasound scan is a widely available non-invasive and useful means of diagnosing splenic diseases.
Because splenic abnormalities are relatively rare, the clinician is unlikely to be as familiar with them as with those of the liver.
There is too much overlap between the echo patterns of benign and malignant splenic focal lesions based on sonographic appearance, thus ultrasound may be disappointing.
A more accurate diagnosis may be obtained using a combination of sonographic features and clinical data.
In many cases, pathologic confirmation is needed to make a definitive diagnosis
