Lesson description:

In this lesson the common ultrasound artefacts and their significance in diagnostic imaging will be discussed.

Sonologists should be familiar with common artefacts to avoid confusion with significant pathologic changes, although some artefacts can be helpful in interpreting images. Understanding the mechanism of artefact development may help to avoid them in certain circumstances.

Some common artefacts are: posterior shadowing, posterior enhancement and reverberation artefact.
