Lesson description:
Ablation of liver tumors is a minimally-invasive locally destructive treatment alternative to surgical resection. Not only is ablation considered for patients not amenable to surgical resection (<20%) but also increasingly for resectable tumors even with a curative intent. Percutaneous ablation is generally performed under image guidance based on CT, MRI, or ultrasound. Patients undergoing percutaneous ablation benefit from an improved quality of life due to a shorter hospital stay compared to patients undergoing open surgery.
